Renker Pool & The Eisenhower Suite — “Desert Legacy”
Conclude your tour at the Renker Pool, affectionately known as “the plunge.” Built in 1937, it quickly became the resort’s social centerpiece—a place where guests gathered under the palms to enjoy the desert’s gentle warmth. In 1989, the pool was rededicated to Fred Renker, the resort’s first tennis professional, whose enthusiasm for sport helped define the resort’s friendly, active spirit.
Just steps away sits the Eisenhower Suite, named in honor of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, who frequently visited the property during his post-presidency years. He spent his time painting desert landscapes and relaxing in the quiet that La Quinta offered. Standing here, surrounded by palms and mountain light, you can feel the peaceful rhythm that has drawn visitors for nearly a century.
Did you know?
The Renker Pool was the resort’s original main pool—once the liveliest gathering spot on property.
President Eisenhower often painted during his visits to La Quinta, inspired by the valley’s colors and stillness.
Today, the resort spans 45 acres, with 796 rooms, 42 pools, nine golf courses, 23 tennis courts, and a 23,000-square-foot spa—yet the same intimate spirit remains.
